Show steer prospects for 2011!
In 1969 we began testing semen for ABS. We used Maine-Anjou and Limousin semen on our herd of Angus and Hereford cows. The performance and temperamant of the Maine-Anjou prompted us to continue breeding them. By 1974 we became members of the Maine-Anjou Association and soon after formed a Western States Club.
As all five daughters became old enough to join 4-H we began showing at the fairs and stockshow. Grand champions were plentiful and we focused on the carcass quality of the steers, leading to many steer of merits and champion carcasses. Our final shows included the Cowpalace in San Francisco where we had the Grand Champion bull and Reserve Champion female in 1988 and the N.A.I.L.E in Montana in 1989.
In more recent years we have been focusing on selling club calves and heifers to 4-H and FFA kids. They exhibit them all over the state of Washington and some in Canada. We have a wide variety of calves ranging from 1/2 Maine to purebreds. We sell several steers at the Evergreen sale in Kennewick, WA. A steer we sold at the 2009 sale won Grand Champion at the 2010 State Fair in Puyallup.
